Big Red
Big Red began life as a 1953 Chevrolet 4100 hose truck serving the Homestead Township Fire Department in Michigan. Built to carry extra hose and equipment to fires, this model combined rugged Chevrolet engineering with the practical layout needed for rapid hose deployment and support operations on the fireground.
The truck’s next chapter began when it was purchased by the owner of the Roberto Clemente Museum and brought to the old Pittsburgh Engine House 25. Restored and repainted to match the vintage fire apparatus that once ran from that building, Big Red was given details that honor local history and Roberto Clemente’s legacy. A wine barrel was placed in the bed—reflecting the building’s dual role as home to a winery—and emblazoned with the logos of both the museum and the winery. The number 21 was painted on the bed in tribute to Roberto Clemente’s jersey number.
Big Red served as a promotional vehicle for the museum and winery and became a familiar sight at community parades and public events. Its authentic appearance and historical ties made it an effective ambassador for local heritage and culture.
At the end of 2025, we purchased the truck with a simple goal: to own our very own vintage fire truck. After bringing Big Red home and experiencing the enthusiasm it inspired, the idea for Big Red 25 was born. Today Big Red is part of a vintage fire truck rental service offering authentic, well-maintained fire apparatus for weddings, photo shoots, film productions, and community events—bringing history, character, and a touch of hometown pride to every booking.
